Monthy Newsletter
September 2,
2008
Dear Adventurers and Parents,
Welcome to the Adventurers’ Team!
Each month, our team will compose a newsletter
showcasing our monthly learning and detailing upcoming events. Mr.
Harnden and Mrs. Hennessey have composed this edition to share some
important information about the curriculum, policies, and procedures of
the Adventurer’s Team. On the reverse of this letter, you will find a
mock edition of the student portion of the monthly newsletter. Every
month, each student will write a paragraph about the four core subjects
and unified arts. The team staff will select “guest journalists” to be
published on the master copy of the letter. This time around, Mr.
Harnden and Mrs. Hennessey have written a short summary of the topics
covered in each of the curriculum areas. We have a busy year ahead of
us!
Along with the letter, you will find the Homework
Expectations and the Adventurer’s Plan. Sixth graders are assigned
homework each night. The Homework Expectations form is a terrific
resource for students as they complete their 6th grade homework. At
this age, students are learning what quality work looks like. We hope
this informational sheet will give students a checklist to follow when
completing their daily homework.
The Adventurer’s Plan details the steps taken to
establish and maintain a safe and productive team. Each member of the
team is responsible for meeting behavioral expectations. If students
fail to meet these expectations, the measures on the Adventurer’s Plan
will be taken. This plan has been developed to give students
opportunities to identify acceptable and unacceptable behaviors.
Students will then have a chance to change their behaviors.
We hope that students will take responsibility for
their own academics and behavior on the Adventurers Team. The
Adventurer’s Plan and the Homework Expectations will provide structure
and consistency that will help students become increasingly independent
and responsible for their learning.
This week, you will be receiving information daily
from the Middle School. Usually, however, the team will send home
forms, letters, and corrected work on Thursday afternoons (similar to
the system at the Dunn School). We ask that you view the work and then
remove it from your child's Communication Folder and sign the
form as an indication that the work has been received. Thank you for
helping all Adventurers keep organized!
Again, WELCOME TO OUR TEAM! We look forward to
working with you this year. If you have any questions, please contact
Mrs. Hennessey or Mr. Harnden at the Middle School (657-4994).
Thank you,
Mrs. Hennessey & Mr.
Harnden
