The Community

Gray-New Gloucester High School is located in Gray, a suburban community of approximately 9,000 people and serves the towns of both Gray and New Gloucester within Maine School Administrative District #15.  The town of Gray lies 15 miles northwest of Portland, Maine’s largest city.

The School

Gray-New Gloucester High School is a public, comprehensive four-year high school accredited by the Maine State Department of Education and New England Association of Schools and Colleges.  The high school has an enrollment of approximately 650 students.

The Curriculum

The academic program is organized on a block schedule.  A maximum load is 8 credits per year with students carrying eight 80-minute block classes.  Students meet for 4 block classes daily.

A minimum of 20 credits is required for graduation.  1 credit = 1 year; .5 credit = 1 semester.  Graduation requirements include:  4 credits English; 3 credits Math; 3 credits Science; 3 credits Social Studies; 1 credit Physical Education; 1 credit Fine Arts; .5 credit Health; .5 credit Computer Science; 4 credits Electives.

Advanced Placement (AP) is an open-enrollment program; courses offered are Biology II, Calculus, English, Statistics, and United States History. 

Honors courses are offered in Algebra I and II, Chemistry, English, Geometry, Introduction to Psychology, Physics, and Pre-Calculus.  In addition, Honors Shaker Studies is a specialized course that takes advantage of the Sabbathday Lake Shaker Village in New Gloucester; a unique academic opportunity found nowhere else in the world.  Currently, 120 students are enrolled in AP courses and 381 students are enrolled in Honors courses.

Grading and Ranking

Gray-New Gloucester High School assigns number grades as follows:
A=93-100; B= 85-92; C=75-84; D=70-74; F=69 or below
Class rank and grade point averages are cumulative weighted computations based on final grades after seven semesters and include all credit classes.

College Attendance History

122 students graduated in the Class of 2007.
