The mission of the Gray-New Gloucester High School Student Services Department is to provide a comprehensive school counseling program that promotes all students acquiring competencies for life-long learning and success in the areas of academic, career and personal/social development.

Guidance Services


Guidance services are available to all students. Students are encouraged to see their counselor with any questions or concerns. Information given to guidance counselors is strictly confidential unless student safety is an issue. Students may schedule appointments during their free time with the guidance secretary (Ms. Chaplin). Students with full schedules may make appointments during lunch, before, or after school. The Guidance Department is open from 7:00 am to 2:30 pm. Counselors can be reached at the contact information listed above or by calling 657-9320.

Parents/guardians are also welcome to consult with their children’s guidance counselor. Parent conferences are often helpful when a student is experiencing academic or personal problems, or when a student is developing an academic plan for the future.

Services offered by the Guidance Department:
      1. Academic advising, including course selection and scheduling
      2. Crisis counseling regarding personal problems or concerns
      3. Assistance with post-secondary planning (college and career)
      4. Academic and career testing
      5. Financial aid and scholarship support
      6. Classroom and large group presentations
      7. Social/personal development counseling
      8. Referral to other services
      9. School-wide programming

ATTENTION ALL SENIORS! IF YOU HAVE NOT ALREADY DONE SO, PLEASE SEE MRS. CHAPLIN TO MAKE AN APPOINTMENT WITH YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELOR ABOUT YOUR PLANS AFTER HIGH SCHOOL (college, certificate program, work, travel, etc).

College Goal Maine
College Goal Sunday is no longer just a one-day event!  The entire month of January 2011 is dedicated to helping students and families complete the FAFSA. There will be 9 regional events held on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at 2:00 p.m.  More than 30 other local events are scheduled for various dates and times during the month of January 2011.  Go to the locations tab for dates and times of an event near you! SAT TEST DATES
JANUARY 22nd TEST– Dec lst Registration Deadline; Late Registration Deadline Dec 23rd (fee applies)
MARCH 12th – Feb 11th; Registration Deadline; Late Registration Deadline Feb 25th (fee applies)

ACT TEST DATES
FEBRUARY 12th Test - Jan 7th Registration Deadline; Late Registration Deadline Jan 21st (fee applies)
APRIL 9th Test - Mar 4th Registration Deadline; Late Registration Deadline Mar 18th (fee applies)

The deadline to apply to the University of Maine in Orono, if you want to qualify for a Merit Scholarship, is Wednesday, December 15th. Come to the Guidance Office with any questions and we will be happy to help.
