Important Dates
  • May 19 - Early Rlease Day, 1:00 pm Dismissal

  • May 26 - Memorial Day - NO SCHOOL

Childwatch  Reminder to Parents:  Please call the school (657-5050) before 9am when your child is going to be absent or late.   Please remember, Dunn School has an answering machine, so even if the office is not open you can leave a message at any time, day or night, and let us know ahead of time if your child will be absent or late.  Thank you!

May 15th, PTSA meeting at 7pm held in the Middle School library. Positions open for 2008-2009 school year: Secretary, and Representatives to Russell School, Memorial School and the Middle School. PTSA positions up for election are: Vice-President and Treasurer. May 19th is another Early Release Day slated for the month of May.
May 21st, you are cordially invited to the Annual Volunteer Tea. We are celebrating the continuous support of volunteers. The Tea will be held in the Dunn School library from 1pm to 2pm. We anxiously await the North Yarmouth Academy steel drummers on May23rd. Staff and students really enjoy the music. Students are encouraged to wear Hawaiian clothes on this day.

Through May 27th, NWEA tests will be administered.  Over the course of the next few weeks, students will be tested for a total of two hours during their computer class.

The three grade level breakfasts are now complete. Thanks to everyone that attended and a special thanks to the cafeteria staff for their extra effort.
June 24th at 9:45am is the date for the 5th grade final assembly and will be held in the Pineland YMCA gym. Students will not be allowed to go directly home from the “Y”. Parents will need to sign them out back at school. June 24th is the last student day. Dismissal is at Noon. The cafeteria will provide a bag lunch for those interested.

Dunn School Spring Band Concert

We look forward to sharing our music with you on Tuesday, May 20th in the Dunn School Gym. 
The concert will begin at 7pm and band members should arrive by 6:40. 
Wear your “dressy best” outfit.


We will be performing one last concert during the school day in June for the Dunn School students. I will let you know the date as soon as it is finalized.

Parent Strategies and Activities for Improving the Child's Reading and Writing Skills 
The following suggestions are intended to help increase your child’s understanding of reading and develop his/her confidence in the learning process. 
Choose 2 or 3 of the following strategies and continue to implement them for the remainder of the year.  These methods will also be effective during the summer months.

General Reading and Writing Improvement Strategies:
Read to your child.
Model good Habits by reading in front of your child.
Check your child’s assignment notebook daily.
Provide a consistent, daily study period without distractions.
Help with specific skills (e.g., phonics or comprehension).
Use reading software, if available.
Visit the public library frequently.
Join public library summer reading programs.
Provide opportunities for your child to attend theater performances, musicals, etc.
Limit TV or video games
Provide activities that relate reading to daily life.
